I myself am a 21-year-ancient female, but I’ve never called, nor had the inclination to call, nor heard any of my excellent friends call anyone “like,” either in person or online. Within the past several months, though, I’ve noticed an increasing number of female acquaintances on Facebook calling each other “like” and captioning pictures of, i.e., themselves and their roommates with phrases like “Room 202 loveee” or, i.e., of themselves and their teammates as “soccer loveee.”
First of all, is there some pop culture source (i.e. a TV show or movie) that inspired this lingo?
Secondly, why do they add so many e’s to the end of “like”? Phonetically, how would that sound if they were saying it aloud?
Thirdly, *do* they really say these things aloud?
I am just so baffled by this trend. Before this year the only people I heard call women or girls “like” were Austin Powers and the elderly (as in, “Do be a like and fetch my sweater”).

Just some observations here: Men are shallow in the sense they want a nice looking woman. But at least that’s a value of the other person HERSELF. Women, on the other hand are WAY more shallow than men. Here’s why: Most attractive women know they are attractive, and they seek MONEY. Money…an inatimate object.
Is this just a western society thing? I hear women in Europe are NOTHING like women here in America. That they really (GASP!) care more about what the PERSON is like instead of their bank account. I despise to sound harsh, but it seems most women in the U.S. are nothing more than money hungry, glorified hookers looking for a rich man so they don’t have to work. I wonder if outside of America, things are different?
Another reason women are worse: Men DON’T LIE and honestly say “Yeh, it’s right, I want a nice looking girl.” Women LIE and say “Oh I just want a “nice guy”…yeh, right. Oh, and if you don’t have money BEATING your women also works. Nice, huh? For us normal guys out there (aka “dull” guys to soap opera watching women). Anyway, this is just my rant.

lower expectations for them.
Faculty members may be excessively kind and paternalistic or maternalistic in trying to be
helpful and hold women to a lower standard.
Men may tell a group that they are refraining from telling certain jokes or using certain words
because there are “ladies” present.

Hi there,
I’m a very shy 19 year ancient guy (virgin), and – like I said – I am completely straight, but as of late I have been thinking a fantastic deal that I wish I had been born as a girl. As a lesbian, that is.
It’s not that I have any interest in having a sex change operation in the least – but, rather, I reckon that if I were given the option to start life again and CHOOSE between being a straight boy or a lesbian, I would go for the latter.
I don’t really know why… perhaps it is partly because, although the traditional gender stereotypes are breaking down, they are still very much present, and I reckon that in a number of ways I am probably quite ‘feminine’ by those traditional standards… maybe I feel that I am much too feminine to be attractive to the majority of females…
Then again, like I said, I’m a virgin, and I’ve never even had a girlfriend, so I wonder if maybe these thoughts are the sort of things certain people just feel if they are incredibly frustrated in that sense…
Whatever the cause of these feelings, they are really beginning to upset me. Sometimes I just reckon about this kind of thing in a whimsical ‘what if…?’ way, but lately I’ve really been thinking about it seriously, and I feel more and more as though I was cheated, and that I should have been a girl.
I don’t really know what I’m asking, specifically. Mainly just for thoughts and impressions. Have you encountered something like this before? Is it something you’ve ever felt yourself? Are there any women reading this who wish they had been born male, etc., etc.?
I would really appreciate it if some of the less sensitive posters who sometimes turn up on this site refrain from posting anything along the lines of ‘omg freak’ or ‘ewww loser’ or anything like that…

I am completely straight – there’s not even a small bit of insecurity about this. As I said, I would want to be a lesbian.

I LOVE “Small Women” by Louisa May Alcott. I just finished reading it again for probably the 30th time. I find the characters very right to life. They seem like they could be very real people. If you could choose one of the girls to be who would you choose? And Why? Or if you reckon you are like one of them which one? Rate which you are most like to least like.
i.e. I am certainly a “Meg”. I am very wrapped up in my home life and the small things that I can control. I like to have nice things and often feel jealous when I look at other people. I find fantastic joy in being at home. Next I would be “Beth” and then “Amy” and then “Jo”. What about you?

I want to be Jo, but I have to face it–I’m a “Meg” too! It’s kind of amusing, because I’m still in the middle of the book but Meg has been annoying me soooo much. I’m very conscious of how I present myself to others and I get jealous easily. I’m also very materialistic, and I like being home. Being home makes me feel at peace. I wish I was as free-spirited and unique as Jo, though.

I’m not judging here. I just see this phenomenon a lot. Please be as specific as possible. Name the traits or characteristics of “excellent girls” or nice women that you like. By “excellent girls” or nice women I don’t mean girls or women who are considered by some to be “dorks” or “losers.” The girls and women I have in mind are very attractive, smart, amusing, caring, nurturing, affectionate, and successful–but they seem to be magnets for “terrible boys” who eventually wind up hurting them, in most cases without even trying.
What are you looking for? Do you really like these women, or are they simply a challenge or a nice small vacation from the drama or excitement in your life?
If you like them, why do you hurt them–e.g. by lying, cheating, doing the “push-pull” dance, or playing with their hearts? Is this intentional, or is this simply how you are wired?

I see that alot. I don’t quite know that logic. I should question excellent women why do they like Terrible Boys. I reckon its because if a girl is excellent, she want to be around something she is not. I don’t know, but Im a “excellent guy” and I have always in my past been attrached to terrible girls, but im changind those ways and It is a lot harder to get relationships going with excellent girls because they dont want me. Its wierd aint it.

it’s similar to English. Madchen might be used for girls, not just for children, like if you refer to some pretty or sexy girls. otherwise, use Frauelein or Frau.

So ….. my father says watching too much porn can ruin your relationship with women, spoil your view of women and end relationships.
Now I can know that : if I have a girlfriend, and I wach porn more often than i have sex with her, that can be a problem.
But I don’t ( or maybe refuse to) see how watching porn itself, can make romance hard.
If anything, my watching of porn is a result of not having a relationship NOT the other way around.

Note I said some, not all. I notice that some Asian women have relationship with white men but don’t like Asian men to have relationships with white women. If an attractive (handsome, 6ft tall, athletic, rich, amusing, etc) Asian guy date, marry, or have a relationship with an attractive white woman some Asian women, especially the ones who had/have white boyfriend/husband, sometimes complain that non-Asian women are “taking all the excellent Asian guys.” What gives?
This is weird because I notice that the Asian women in Asia if they see that type of relationship don’t really make a fuss (I reckon because of male-dominated society, and many women in Asia are more elegant and graceful this way compared to Westernized Asian) but in America these double standards happen.
