Q&A: Why do so many young girls (and women in general) have such low self esteem? What is it that you think…?

by campdarby

Question by chaskfrazier: Why do so many young girls (and women in general) have such low self esteem? What is it that you reckon…?
you’re lacking in? And if anyone can honestly answer this question without using the words (and/or blaming) “the media” and “society”, I would really appreciate it. And don’t get me incorrect, I know there are some very confident women in this world. I happen to work with a couple of them. I’m talking “in general”…not EVERY WOMAN.
And while you’re at it, if you could offer some suggestions to these women who do suffer from low self esteem, I know that would help.
KA1227 I like the top list and did that with my daughter. She played varsity sports, graduated Temple U. and has 2 older brothers who are very proud of her. She still falls into most of the bottom part. Is that the societal part…to be *perfect*? The outside/negative stimuli? If that one thing is missing, they give up?
Sara et al, the media and society aren’t the problem, the problem is the individual who believes everything the media tells them. The cosmetics industry (which usually sponsors the media) tells you that you need make up…not the guys that you reckon are impressed by it. The only guys who really want you in make up are the guys who have stock in the business & products.

It’s a constant need to be “perfect” that everyone is chasing. It’s mental. Everything is psychological.

Answer by Sarah
Sorry to break your rule, but the reason women have self esteem problems is because of society’s expectation and pressure for perfection.

Until that changes, the problems you see with self esteem will always be present.

Do you feel that we as Muslimahs should educate ourselves and other women about our rights?

Question by ?Proud Muslimah?Gorgeous Islam?: Do you feel that we as Muslimahs should educate ourselves and other women about our rights?
What do you reckon of this woman? She has a lot of drive, I admire her. She is a proud Muslimah who is getting the message out that we have rights too, and we ARE going to use them. What do you say?

For several years, an informal group of Muslim women from around the world has met to spur discussion among Muslims everywhere about the rights of women. Now, with the shadow of a repressive Islamic regime in Afghanistan hovering over the debate, the group has produced a manual on the rights of women under Islam.

Intended to be adaptable to a wide range of cultures at the grass-roots level, the new publication, “Claiming Our Rights: A Manual for Women’s Human Rights Education in Muslim Societies,” will be tested over the next year in five very different countries: Bangladesh, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

The plot is to assemble discussion groups to exchange thoughts on the subject. There has already been a silent trial run among a group of university women in Iran.
“There is a fantastic change in self-awareness among women in Muslim societies,” said Mahnaz Afkhami, executive director of the Sisterhood Is Global Institute, a private organization based in Bethesda, Md.

Ms. Afkhami directed the effort on the manual, which the institute produced with the help of the National Endowment for Democracy and the Ford Foundation.

Sometimes at fantastic risk to themselves, women are making gains, though frequently small and fragile. But developments like the introduction of more egalitarian family laws in North Africa often go unnoticed, Ms. Afkhami said, because militants and fundamentalists dominate contemporary images of Islam.

Can somebody help me to correct this sentence?

by campdarby

Question by want peace: Can somebody help me to right this sentence?
“Finally, no matter what you wear, you should keep the level of modesty, and respect your identity. Because if you respect yourself you can gain respect of others as well. Consequently, you can be an active and attractive person in society”.
Really my essay is about the way women should dress and I’m not sure what is incorrect with my conclusion paragraph, plz revise this and give some thoughts to write in more effectively.
Thanks in advance. Like you yahoo answers.

Best answer:

Answer by thegentle Indian
By just tweeking a small word here and there, it can become a very effective concluding paragraph. Consider this:

” Ultimately, no matter what you wear, you should dress modestly, in keeping with your own self-respect. Much to your surprise, you become attractive– and earn the admiration and respect of others in society too!”

Club le Mabbu le by Adhi (Reply cover)

So i have been wanting to do a answer for this song after some of my friends suggested it but i was stuck behind exams and books for quite a while. Came up with the lyrics in two days..so apologies in advance for any sort of mistake! I’m only human! haha! anyways..the reason i wanted to do a cover was to show my support to Adhi in his music career! I hope he is very proud of himself just like how we all are! This is the original video : www.youtube.com I am no rapper ( partha theriyethu le? lol) ! All the best Adhi! and Kudos to Jonita with her cover! I used Lose Yourself’s instrumental track just like she did! watch www.youtube.com for jonita’s cover! Delight in folks! HIP HOP TAMIZHA rawwks! And to my non-tamil folks.. the original song by Adhi revolves around the tale of girls nowadays, drinking, having too much fun,..u know the works.. while ignoring their indian culture that is very precious. For those who take the song seriously, it can get get pretty offensive but come on..its just a song written creatively for some characters of women in society! and so what I have done is, sort of , talk about the fact that, we, girls/women, don’t get as much as freedom as them boys to explore the world and its pleasures! My intention was to show a answer on what the issue kinda is. Even though, my one and only intention was to show Adhi how a huge fan I am of him…I realized i wanted to also do it just because I can! When there are songs like Adhi’s that are favorites amongst girls

Is spinsterhood more accepted in the Philippines now?

by campdarby

Question by Inday: Is spinsterhood more accepted in the Philippines now?
Time was ancient maids were not exactly looked up in the Philippines. Like there was some kind of stigma attached to being unmarried at a late age. With more and more Filipinas independent in so many ways, the appeal of marriage may seem lost on them. A lot of women are now single by choice. Is our society “kinder” to them now than decades ago?

Best answer:

Answer by anna m
I have aunts and an uncle who chose not to get married and we never looked at them differently. But I reckon, marrying at a late age for women are now more common and acceptable than a decade ago.

Examples of sociological questions?

Question by : Examples of sociological questions?
We are making a mock survey
the thought is we need to reckon of questions that a sociologist would question
Do you guys have any thought?

Would ” why did you choose your current gf”
or ” where do you believe women should be in society” ??

Best answer:

Answer by layobro7
the question needs to be more specific. taking your second question as an example, a better way to use the topic as a question would be something like this: ” Do you believe that men and women should have equal rights in a society?” something like that. that may not be what you want as a question, but it is narrowed down to one specific question regarding women in society.

Are there any beautiful feminist in history compared to Bo Derek or Farrah Fawcett?

Question by YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW: Are there any gorgeous feminist in history compared to Bo Derek or Farrah Fawcett?
I am writing a comparison essay for comp 1 on the thought of beauty vs self made women that is in the trenches daily fighting for rights. This will probably an instinct vs reason thesis. ie “Contemporary women choose antigone freewill over traditional matriarchal society”. I see a trend that more and more women are choosing blue collar jobs which negate control over family business.

Should people be forced to divorce?

Question by Muhammad the Borrower: Should people be forced to divorce?
A Cairo court has ordered the divorce of a couple who wish to stay together. Islamists have claimed that Professor Nasser Hamed Abu Zaid is guilty of heresy in writing that “Islam’s teachings should evolve with changes in society.” But, a Muslim woman cannot be married to a heretic, a non-Muslim. He and his wife, Ibtihal, also an academic have appealed against the ruling and can remain together for the time being. But if the prosecution stands, they could lose their jobs or even be killed .by fanatics as “adulterers (“living in sin”) or as apostates (“deserters of Islam”)

Conversations with History – Harry Kreisler

Political Awakenings Harry Kreisler, Executive Director Institute of International Studies, University of California at Berkeley Conversations Host and Executive Producer Harry Kreisler discusses his new book, “Political Awakenings,” and tells the tale of the Conversations series. Kreisler traces the origins of program, describes his vision of the craft of interviewing, and talks about the ways technology dramatically increased access to the CWH program making a global audience. He then discusses the origin of the book and its content. Choosing twenty interviews from the 485 in the Conversations archive he focused on those interviewees that stand out because they came to see their world in a radically different way, with vital implications for The World. They embraced thoughts and actions that implied an alternative way of perceiving politics. In this context, politics means more than party affiliation; it refers to an understanding of power relations. They applied these insights in a variety of arenas, whether world affairs, the role of women in society, the impact on the environment of human behavior. In their own lives, the insights of these guests didnt just happen but were the consequences of life experiences that helped clarify the way things held together—moments of political awakening. globetrotter.berkeley.edu globetrotter.berkeley.edu conversationswithhistory.typepad.com www.thenewpress.com

Question by david h: How come every damn time I question a question here on “Answers” I get a smart A#% answer?
it seems like every time I come here to “answers” to question a question someone has something juvinille to say??? are you eleven years ancient or what. I just questioned a question and the answer was “nothing in life is free”, how shallow can you be? the fact of the matter is “the best things in life are free” like compassion, self-lessness, humility, etc… this is such a “shame based society”. why don’t people contemplate getting out of themselves for a moment to see what excellent they can offer their fellow man/woman???

The house of Musa ibn Khazraj ibn Sa`d Ash`ari, where Lady Fatima Masuma [s] lived for the few days that she was in Qum, has now become a school named Madres-ye Sittiyeh. [Sittiy means Lady hence the name of the school is School of the Lady]. Till today, opposite the gates of this school and within its grounds, there remains the alter of worship (mihrab `ibadat) of this noble lady, where she spent hours of the last days of her life worshiping Allah. Also in this video is a small lecture by Sheikh Usama AbdulGhani, who describes the role of Women in Society and through Islamic point of view highlighting the responsibilities as well as the status of women.
