“Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?”?
I’m writing a paper on Linda Nochlin’s “Why Have There Been No Fantastic Women Artists?” and I want to know what everyone thinks.
I’m not going to state my opinion because that’s not really honest, but I want to hear what others honestly reckon about women, and art.
Is there a difference in the art men and women make?
Can women make fantastic art?
(for arguments sake, for my 2 cents worth, I’m a feminist, so I reckon my answers would be honestly obvious…but I want to know what others reckon)
There have been a lot of fantastic women artists…..what difference does it make?
The real question: In being a feminist are you also a sexist?
Why not be a Humanist, an Integralist, or better yet – a excellent human being?
Women can and do make fantastic art. Sometimes it is apparent that art was made by either a man or a woman, but not often.
Historically, women have been oppressed, kept down, restricted, abused, etc, what have you. The reason there’s no female equivalent to Leonardo or Raphael is because during that time, women were not permitted to hold illustrious careers of any variety, especially not one in the arts.
Asking the question WHY women were not allowed in such positions is to question why women have been oppressed ever, and that is a question I cannot sum up in such small a text.
